Concept

Based off last Thursday's Prefinal crit the Earthworms brainstormed and came up with a foundational concept.

Peeling layers to create overlapping forms.

This concept will appear on the exterior building and all the way down to each piece of furniture.

As I reflect on our concept and think about how peeling and overlapping layers of a building would look, I began to research. I found images from a talented architect of the 1960s and 1970s. Cynthia Eardley went beyond the norm to create building forms that remind me of what the Earthworms are trying to achieve.

This image is of the Peeling Project, of a retail space. Completed in the 1970s. Cynthia Eardley took a rectangular facade and changed it into something new and innovative. The facade appears to be peeling off.

Cynthia Eardley also created a glass underwater passage way during the 1960s. The architect wanted to create a soothing meditative passage, where you are submerged but can see underwater. Her main goal was for the visitor to enjoy a relaxing environment to observe underlake life forms through the movement of water.
